The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education was passed in July 2006. The act aims to increase the quality of technical education within the United States to help the economy. Federal funds are made available to provide career and technical education programs to youth and adults. The most frequent uses of funds include occupationally-relevant equipment, curriculum development and materials, materials for learning labs, staff development, career counseling and guidance activities, efforts for academic-technical integration, supplemental services for special populations, hiring staff, accelerated classes, and the expansion of Tech-Prep and dual credit programs.
