Alief ISD Education Foundation, Caring for Our Students and Teachers

Increased demands on public schools and educators, combined with decreased financial resources, led to the establishment of school foundations starting in the 1980s.

The Alief Independent School District Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization (IRS designation 501(c)3) that supports Alief Independent School District’s mission. “The mission of the Alief Independent School District, in collaboration with family and community, is to provide an exemplary education that values diversity of race, culture, gender, learning ability, and socioeconomic background in an environment that is equitable for all students and free of stereotypical expectations to ensure both a physically and mentally safe environment.”

In the spirit of giving back and supporting education, our community eagerly anticipates two annual benefit events that not only bring people together, but also make a significant impact on the lives of students and teachers. The golf tournament serves as a crucial fundraising avenue to generate funds for student scholarships and teachers' educational mini grants. This year, the golf tournament reached new heights by breaking records and raising over $100,000, which was an astounding amount for the organization. This financial achievement is a testament to the generosity and dedication of our community members and sponsors who recognize the importance of investing in the future through education. "Addressing our challenges takes our entire community, I appreciate our foundation leaders stepping up to support public education during this tough time,” Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays said.

Complementing the success of the golf tournament was Stuff the Bus. This event is a heartwarming initiative that brings the community together to support local students in need. This event focuses on collecting school supplies to ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed in their academic journey. Through Stuff A Bus, our community members and sponsors donated essential school supplies, backpacks, and other educational materials that will be distributed to needy Alief ISD students. The event serves as a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a profound difference in the lives of students who may face financial barriers to accessing basic educational resources.

The Alief Independent School District Education Foundation acquires donations and provides grants for programs and projects that enhance the quality of education for the students and teachers of the Alief Independent School District year-round. The Foundation enhances student academic opportunities and personal development by providing resources for educational activities for students including out-of-school expenses, awards scholarships for academic achievement and leadership opportunities, and model activities adaptable to all students which serve to promote academic success, personal well-being, and respect for others. The Foundation also encourages exemplary employee achievement by recognizing excellence in the areas of employee achievement and growth.

The Foundation Board voted and approved new officers last month. They include Raquel Olivier (President), Kodi Bailey (Vice-President), and Alicia Johnston (Secretary). "I am excited about working with our new Foundation board members to help meet the needs of Alief ISD,” Board President Trustee Darlene Breaux said.

The Board of Directors is eagerly anticipating the numerous accomplishments and celebrations that lie ahead in the near future.

Raquel Olivier has a vision for the Foundation and is excited for the years ahead. "Thanks to the Alief Foundation for trusting me to lead,” she said.”I am looking forward to being a part of the Alief Team.”
